Public Record Éire is an independent document repository providing secure storage, timestamping and controlled access to important records.
Documents submitted to the repository are automatically timestamped and anchored to the blockchain, providing an independent record that the document existed at a particular point in time.
Documents can be protected by a Document Access Password chosen by the person submitting them. Where password search has been enabled for that type of record, the password can be used to locate and access the corresponding protected document. This allows the individual to provide access to a trusted person, legal representative, healthcare professional, member of An Garda Síochána or other authorised party when required.
Not every document held by Public Record Éire is searchable in this way. Searchability is deliberately limited according to the type and purpose of the record. Documents which are not enabled for password search remain available to the person who submitted them through their secure Repository Account and to authorised repository administrators.
Public Record Éire does not provide a public directory of submitted documents. Records cannot be browsed or searched by a person’s name, email address or other personal details. A Document Access Password acts as the means of locating a searchable protected record, so access can be given deliberately without making the document generally discoverable.
This approach allows Public Record Éire to preserve important records and provide independent evidence of their existence while maintaining an appropriate balance between accessibility and privacy. Documents can be made available when they are needed, without turning the repository itself into a publicly searchable database of personal records.
